About Us

About Timber and Tone

At Timber and Tone, we build headphones with intention—combining a deep understanding of wood with modern acoustic design and premium components. Each pair is assembled in Bozeman, Montana, shaped by many iterations and small refinements to get the details just right.

Our open-back earcups are CNC-machined from a single piece of hardwood, seamlessly integrating the grille into the cup itself. This design not only enhances structural integrity and aesthetics but also contributes to a more open, natural sound. The tonal warmth and resonance of the wood complement the spacious character of the open-back architecture—creating a listening experience that feels immersive, organic, and true to the recording.

Every element—from CNC-machined gimbals and leather headbands to Symphones V9 drivers and Hart Audio cables—is selected for its quality and purpose.

Our Core Principle

Our Design

Timber and Tone headphones are shaped by a commitment to material integrity and timeless design. Each pair is crafted using solid hardwood earcups and headband brackets, CNC-machined for precision and consistency. The gimbals are formed from laminated, steam-bent wood—balancing strength with a sculpted feel. Brass hardware adds warmth and structure, while a genuine leather headband offers comfort and durability.

Because we work with real wood and hand-assemble each headphone, no two pairs are exactly alike. The natural grain, color variation, and subtle shifts in tone make every set visually unique. And over time, the materials will develop a rich patina—deepening in character and feel with each use. Every detail reflects our choice to build differently—rooted in natural materials, lasting quality, and a more tactile connection to sound.

This approach sets Timber and Tone apart from the mass-produced plastics and lightweight metal frames common in much of today’s headphone market—offering a richer, more grounded alternative.
